Charities
Listed to the right are links to all the
charities which we have been able to find information about (please
note, this list is always under active construction and we
would welcome your input).
Although it is beyond our scope to recommend any one charity
above another, and the exclusion of a charity may simply mean
it has not been entered yet, it is only fair that you be given
as much information as possible.
At
the least we can expect a "charity" to be an
incorporated society or a registered Trust, however there is
no legal obligation to register with the companies office and many reputable
"trusts" have a Trust Deed only. We can only
hope that they will make their accounts information freely
available.
The most up to date list of charities who qualify
for donee status (ie those that can offer a receipt for tax deduction
purposes) can now be found on line at the Inland Revenue
Department.
Click
here. Previously these were published annually in
"Staples", an accounting practitioners tax guide.
Charities which have *
in front of their name are either "overseas
donating charities" to whom we are unable to donate under
our donee status with the IRD or have indicated they do not
wish to contribute in a workplace giving campaign.
If
you are not listed so far please send us an email
with as many details as possible. Also, as mentioned
elsewhere, if your charity does not wish to participate in
workplace giving, please email
us.
From
time to time we all hear about charity "scams" (in
actual fact I purchased some raffle tickets in September or
October of last year, you know the sort of thing we all do,
just to support a local organisation. Two weeks ago I received
a letter from the police as somebody had been collecting for
themselves and my name & phone number were on the stubs)
and some of them continue to this day. We hear about them on
Fair Go, or in the newspapers, from time to time. The problem is
that everybody, unless they are a nationally known
organisation, has a shadow cast against them. It is our
intention that we act as a channel for information, good or
bad, but substantiated.
